UC applicants may apply on-line or download an application form at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply (beginning October 1, 2006).

E-mail and web access

If you do not have an e-mail account, you may set one up (from your home, school, college or library) at http://www.emailaddresses.com/.

Prospective Freshmen

You may already know that Berkeley is a highly selective public university. But did you know that every freshman application to Berkeley is read individually in our comprehensive review process? That's because we're looking for students who can add to the extraordinary educational atmosphere at Berkeley; we're not just looking at the numbers. Yes, high grades and test scores are important factors in our admission decisions, but we also like to see students apply who have challenged themselves in their coursework and activities—students who clearly like to learn and are eager to contribute!

Transfer Students

The Berkeley campus is strongly committed to admitting transfer students, who make up about one-third of our fall 2006 class. Transfer students do very well at Berkeley, graduating with similar grade point averages and at similar rates as students who started Cal as freshmen.

Transfer admission is limited to students who have or will have completed a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units by the end of the spring semester. As a junior transfer applicant, you must indicate your intended major on the UC application, as your application for admission will be reviewed based on the completion of prerequisite courses for a particular academic program at Berkeley. For more information about specific course and unit requirements for transfer students, please check the links at the right side of this page.

UC Transfer Information

ASSIST (UC transferable course information)

ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official repository of articulation for California’s public colleges and universities and provides the most accurate and up-to-date information about student transfer in California.

ASSIST does not take the place of a counselor on your campus. It is intended to help students and counselors work together to establish an appropriate path toward transferring from a public California community college to a public California university.

Berkeley Transfer Student Center

The Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center serves a diverse population of students and is dedicated to providing programs and services in support of the academic and personal success of transfer, re-entry, and student parents. As a supportive and inclusive community, the center is committed to increasing students access to and awareness of campus resources and enrichment opportunities. The center also promotes campus and community engagement and leadership development that enrich and support students' academic and professional goals. The Transfer, Re-entry, and Student Parent Center carries out the University commitment to access and equity for students and plays a key role in campus outreach and recruitment of transfer, re-entry, and student parents through participation in programs and events at Bay Area community colleges.
